I've copied this from the website:

Here are a few questions/answers that may be useful

Q: Is there a dress code?
A: Yes.... for casual bowling you just need smart casuals. For the Thursday morning bowls drive and all club league matches you will need grey trousers/skirt with a white polo shirt. For all bowling you will need flat soled grey shoes that are not worn outdoors. More details are printed in the Guidance for New Bowlers booklet you will be given.

Interesting though, on the same page of the website it also shows photos of players in grey, brown and white shoes

Thanks for that Nick,i now understand where you are coming from if that club only allows grey shoes then you are correct in assuming that bowls is in the Dark Ages,i am surprised they ever ger new members, especially those who have played before.

That is an unusually specific rule and, based on our club where there's a free choice, the least popular shoe colour!

Hard to see the justification or believe that it is ever enforced.

An opinion backed up by the photos on the same page of the website as the above rule, which shows people who are (or at least are portrayed as) club members wearing a variety of colours of footwear. Yes, grey appears to be most popular , but it is by no means exclusive.
